Déjà vu? The Island Storm are ready to open the season against the Saint John Mill Rats for the second season in a row. Last season's opener the Storm beat the Mill Rats 100-93, will the same happen this year?
The Storm are coming off the most competitive training camp ever and had a successful (2-0) preseason.
Since the exhibitions games, the Storm have let go a few of the fan favorites from last season that has left fans worried and uncertain as what direction Coach Joe Salerno is taking. With the loss of Adrian Moss, Dwayne Smith, Jeremy Williams, and Shawn Vanzant do the Storm have a championship team in place this season?
The odds are good. The exhibition games showed some stellar talent with the likes of returnee Nick Evans and new additions, Myron Strong, Johnny Mayhane, and Renardo Sydney.
If Evans keeps up his game, he just may have the best season ever with the Storm. Strong, Mayhane, and Sydney will definitely put up the numbers the Storm need to win.
Mayhane played last season with the Moncton Miracles and put up some big numbers, averaged 21 points per game, and shot 85% from the free throw line. He played 42 games and averaged 37 minutes per game.
Sydney has had a successful training camp with the Storm and is sure to make his presence known on the court. Sydney, a Mississippi State University graduate who played nineteen games and started in eighteen. He averaged 14.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
With the anticipation building, tomorrow night's game will be one for the books. Will this (almost) entirely new team pull it off and get the win over the Mill Rats? Be sure not to miss the Island Storms season opener on Thursday, November 6th. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
